This semester I’m taking Program for Narrative and Documentary Practice, a photography + writing class. Everyone in the class shoots in “Wonderland,” an area the teacher delineates as anywhere north of Mystic Ave, bounded on the west by the Fells and on the Atlantic on the east. The first week he just had us go into Wonderland and get lost in it if we could, in order to begin getting acquainted with it — no photos required. I took some anyway.

COVID-19 Self-Quarantine Photos, Week 7
Well, here we are again. This week I cooked some barely edible food, ordered $120 of model-making supplies online, felt painfully tired and unmotivated, had some delightful and affirming phone/video calls with friends, and spent much more time than I care to admit arranging mirrors in my room to bounce sunlight around. I feel so…
Mayer Tree Service
I didn’t get paid to take these; my parents just had some dead trees that needed to be taken care of. That said, if any tree services are looking for photos for their website, CALL ME. I would love to shoot more pictures like this. Mayer Tree Service was here for two days and I…
Food: Tufts Medical School
As part of my photography intern duties with Tufts Dining, I went with my boss to the Tufts Medical School campus to take pictures of the various dining options available there. Check it out.
Sarabande Fall Show 2018
Another from the archive — Sarabande’s fall 2018 show. I shot that show a few months after I had back surgery and was still pretty early in my recovery. I felt uncertain about saying yes to taking photos of a dance show, because I knew it would require a lot of hurrying back and forth…
Christmas Illuminations Tour for Somerville Journal
Sometimes photojournalism is serious. Sometimes it’s scary. Sometimes it’s boring. Occasionally, it’s driving around Somerville taking pictures of the best Christmas lights. The Illuminations Tour is an annual event put on by the town of Somerville. Participants buy tickets and take a trolley tour through different neighborhoods to see the displays residents have erected this…
Photo a Day: Rainy Day
It rained a lot this summer. Fortunately for me, my bike saddlebags are waterproof. See the previous day’s photo a day here.

I worked in Lynn in 1989, commuted via Everett and Revere daily. I remember feeling like I had crossed into a different culture from Tufts and Cambridge area once I entered Medford on Rt 16 to Rt 60. Rich in imagery (it was my first photo class at at Tufts where I became obsessed with “ bathtub virgins” in the streets near and around Tufts…)
Once you’re past Mystic Ave and the far reach of Tufts’ influence everything really is different! I love those bathtub virgins — they’re such a thing here that one of the example photos for “Bathtub Madonna” on Wikipedia was taken in Somerville.
