Portraits with Arkadiy

Arkadiy and I met on Craigslist — he’d done some modeling in Russia and wanted to get some headshots and model in the US, and I wanted to practice three-point lighting, so we teamed up to take these pictures.

WBUR Winternship

Over winter break, I spent a week at WBUR interviewing and shadowing different people at the station. Here are some photos behind the scenes at On Point with Ray Suarez.

Photo Essay: LGBTattoo

LGBTattoo: Connecting to community and identity through body art I did this semester-long project for Gary Knight’s class Advanced Documentary Practice, the second half of PNDP, during my last spring at Tufts. You can see it as a magazine layout in PDF format (with screen-reader accessible text) here, or read the entire essay below. Tattooing…

Article: Accessibility at Tufts

After being a staff photographer at the Tufts Daily for four years, I finally wrote an article. It’s about a topic I’m close to, namely physical accessibility on the Medford/Somerville campus, but I wanted to tell the story of other physically disabled Tufts students, not just my own. Dance Performance Photography: Spirit of the Creative

Tufts dance troupe Spirit of the Creative had me shoot their show this fall. I’m scheduled to shoot their spring show in a couple of weeks. Check out their dance moves and great energy! My favorite part of shooting dance (and some sports, depending on the players’ appearances) is the way hair looks at a…

Torn Ticket II Production: Pippin

I’ve shot some performances for Torn Ticket II before. I knew a little about this show from the promo shoot. But I was not expecting it to be this weird.

PNDP Final Project: Hair

The end of Program for Narrative and Documentary Practice last semester culminated in a multi-week project about a subject of our choice. I chose hair, and started calling at barber shops and salons to see if they’d let me take pictures there. I learned a lot about hair, met a lot of cool hair stylists,…
