Cut It Out (2026)

Paper, clipper and razor blades, and acrylic on canvas

I have a strong drive toward thrift, toward saving money, preventing waste, and minimizing environmental impact. I started cutting my own hair in 2011 and taught myself to shave with safety razors, the most economical option, when I went on testosterone in 2014. I never know whether I’m practicing a noble asceticism or treating myself as though I have no value. Using waste from my hair trimming habits, I made Cut It Out to explore this ambivalence.
